Trouble Sleeping? A Dental Device Can Solve Your Problem
A good night’s sleep is very important to our overall health and ability to function effectively throughout the day. However, when our lives become busy, sleep often becomes less of a priority. Many of us, even children, have some type of sleep disorder. These can range from snoring, to sleep related breathing disorders, to insomnia, to circadian rhythm disorders, and movement disorders. These various sleep disorders increase the chances of Motor Vehicle Accidents, High Blood Pressure/ Cardiovascular Disease, Diabetes, Obesity, Depression, and Stroke. Sleep disorders are very common, often very treatable… but frequently go undiagnosed.
Does any of this sound familiar?? Dentists have become an important member of the team assisting Sleep Physicians treating patients with what is known as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). This is when the patient’s airway closes during sleep, creating poor oxygen flow to vital organs including the heart and brain. One option to treat patients with mild to moderate OSA, is to have a dental appliance made that will help to open the patient’s airway and thus increase oxygen flow. This can lead to a quieter, more restful night’s sleep… and a more energetic day!
If you or someone you know is having any issues with poor sleep, please give us a call. We have a very short, simple questionnaire that you can fill out to see if you are at risk for an as yet undiagnosed sleep disorder. We would be happy to discuss this with you and help to lead you to a local Sleep Physician.
A good night’s sleep is awesome!! Think how great you feel! Why not think about getting that feeling back.
